Right now…at this very moment i bet each member of our group is workin on their selected script for the weekend…except for me cause mine is finished. That’s right…it’s done…

We’ve all been dished out a scene to script and wen we get bac to school tomorrow we gonna direct our own little scripted scene and then edit it and pretty much have it down for the performance…

We’re workin on the progression and incoming of commercialisation in a sort of timeline of genre’s goin through slavery music —> gospel/churchy music —> hip hop. Each group member is putting in a scene for this message we tryin to get across. Hopefully after we directed our scene we will all be happy with how it went and have a good few scenes worked out for our final performance…

Two coins add up to 30 cents and one of them’s not a ten cent piece…?

We just went and saw the performance in the city of ‘Exit the King’ starring G-Rush (Geofrey Rush) and it was fairly sweet. Was some fair good acting and it was interesting to watch the absurd theatre as i haven’t seen too much of that.

The performance was about a king who didnt want to die and couldn’t accept his death was inevitable. He eventually had to accept his death and be at peace with it to finnaly cross over.

G-Rush gave a pretty damn good performance for the night and it was good to see such a high profile actor up close in the flesh…even though me and him go way back and he likes to tell me that i’m a better actor than him.

Anyway update on the ensemble = goin fairly well. Our basic plot line is pretty much completed and now we got a lot to work off and a lot of scenes to get done.

As i feel i’ve culturised myself to much goin to high quality theatre, anybody please feel free to inform me of the latest fart jokes just to bring me back down…thankyou

If you can read mexican-italian u’ll know that means scene number one. Today we started developing what could be an opening scene in our ensemble. It involved using our props that we got given too…

It was in a school class and the aim of the scene was to introduce what will prob be the main character of a teenage boy. The scene used the briefcases as laptops and involved downloading a song. I really can’t be bothered explaining the whole scene but it involved me sayin “isn’t that a sweet beat on that track” and then hi-fiving sam in kara’s face…

The scene then turned into picking songs out of an iPod. The briefcases became mechanical parts of the iPod blah blah blah…

In the end the kid chose to listen to Snoop Dogg’s - Drop It Like It’s Hot, in favour of Pink Floyd’s - Another Brick in The Wall. Most likely because he liked the “sweet beat on that track…”

Anyways the scene worked well using the objects we got and it’s gonna link in well with the message we tryin to get across.

IDEA THAT JUST POPPED IN: Our stimulus is the Pink Floyd song and right now im listenin to that new remix version of it. Seeing as the groups lookin at doin a past, present and future sorta thing we could maybe use this song as an example. Past = original, present = remix and future = ??? Just a thought…

Ever wanted to be as cool as me? Ask me how…

I know its a clever anagram that makes sense. It means that today we got our groups props that we need to incorporate somehow into the ensemble. Our group was given 4 briefcases. 4 black new looking ones and 1 old looking white-ish brown-ish one…

We brainstormed how we could fit these in and came up with some good ideas. Once we figure out some more scenes we will be able to bang in some more defenite ways we can use the props…

Word on the street also is that both the groups shall combine props and group members to make one big SUPER-ENSEMBLE. It does sound like the right thing to do…

Yesterday One Underage Rabbit - Ate - Dozens Of Raspberry Knapes (work out that anagram)

Today in class we got out our lists of characters we’d brainstormed from last week and picked one each to see how we could portray them, and we slowly developed a teeny little solo performance with them. We then showed these to our group and spoke about how/if we could fit them into the ensemble. The characters the group performed were a greedy record label executive, a roadie, a groupie and a stereotypical rockstar. We decided that all these characters could be fit in and discussed how they could work…

We then chose one of the characters and developed a scene around them. We chose the greedy record label executive and built the scene around his character. We turned two of our performers into phone stands and they were the ppl on the other ends of the phone (hard to explain). But the main message of the scene really is that the record label ppl are just in music for the money and will change artists ways to make more dosh…

I thought i’d write this idea down so i won’t forget it and maybe the group can read it here. If we use the iPod idea then scenes like this need a way to be worked in. The scenes that don’t involve say a certain artist or song popping out could be a little more difficult to integrate into the performance so i was thinking we could have those ones as videos stored in the iPod. The “ppl” inside the iPod that are trying to change the view of the kid are showing him these videos to prove that they are right…Thats all i got fo’ tonight…

“Ya know i was driving to the MCG the other day and i saw this sign that said ‘MCG left.’ So i turned around and went home…some ppl call me stupid for doin that”

In our drama double on thursday we split up into our ensemble groups, got some big bits of paper, grabbed a few textas out of a fairly feminine box and hit the page up with some brainstorming…

Our group got down some good ideas about what we’ll base the ensemble around. What we wrote down are now our building blocks and we can work from there…

After this brainstormin’ we went to the library and began some research on some of the ideas we got down. We looked at some songs and found the lyrics of artists and their songs that influenced the world. Also looked researching some influencial artists and Sam found a good page that told us where the world would be without certain artists…

From this brainstorm and research we should now be startin to nail the topic down and slowly bring it in and decide whats relevant for our ensemble. It’s a good start for our group as all the ideas were clearly ‘all that and a bag of chips.’ Now lookin forward to the next step for the ensemble…

Brain ain’t workin for a smartass comment tonight…Who’s bright idea was it to invent sundays? I hate them

Today in class we performed our little group thingo’s from what we developed from picking apart the stimulus. We were meant to incorporate song but our group kinda struggled a little bit with that and it didn’t quite really get in there. Some parts we performed were fair good like our timing, movement and synchronisation, whereas some parts lacked like aspects of character conviction and the lack of song. Our groups working well together but there there is a little bit like everyone fully doesnt wanna put their ideas out there in case they get shut down, but eventually we’ll feel more comfortable with each other and that will go away. Anyways, now Clarry asks us how this sorta stuff fits into the ensemble topic…

“we’re looking at how music that carried social and political messages different to the norms of the time influenced popular culture, beleifs, values and changed society for good” - Quote Clazza’s Blog

From the peeps i said in my earlier blog, a song of Stevie Wonder popped into my head today. Most ppl have heard the song ‘Ebony and Ivory’ and it’s basically about the two races of black and white people living together in harmony. Also from that other blog i mentioned Ray Charles, and i’ve seen the movie made about his life called ‘Ray.’ At the time Ray was big in music there was still some forms of black segregation in the public, yet this black man was a big hit on the music scene. I guess wat i’m tryin to say is that for the african american society there was no way of expressing themself in normal society so they chose to express themselves through music, and through this helped change society’s view towards their race. This could also be seen in the gospel choirs in the african american churches of the time…

This is only one example of many that shows the power of music. It’s power to bring together people against any opposition proves its power. The segregated african-american community could go to church and sing their blues away while their famous racial counterparts were trying to change society’s view of them through their widely heard music. I’ve rambled on a bit, but i hope it all makes sense…

A part of the ensemble topic relates to how music has changed the world and what the world would be like if the music hadn’t of existed…

I’ve been thinkin about what styles and who has changed the world through music and i found the furhter i went back in years i found the music more influencial. Right now we really just got a lot of poppy and dance sorta songs that are good to listen to and have good beats and all that stuff but they aint really gonna change the world. Looking back on the old styles of music, without them we wouldn’t have some of the music we had today. Clarry said one of his mates wrote this paper about there only being 3 styles of music from which all styles originate and he said he’d get this and show me (*cough*hint*)…

So this is where my thinkin about how all the old skool styles changing society have come from. Without them old folks singing and bustin out the tunes in the 20s, 30s, 40s and so on who knows where music would be today…

In finishin some musicians i’d really like to look at and how their songs changed the world are ray charles, stevie wonder as well as some james brown as these guys have pretty sweet songs and they were really big in changing the world socially…

G’day and welcome to the first blog of many from me…

This week we finally got our hands on our ensemble topic and discovered it was somethin about bricks…

We got our stimulus, structure, groups etc. for the topic. Our groups lookin good so far with myself, kara, sam and kendall all putting in our thoughts and ideas so we can completely show up the other group…

To begin with, this week in class we listened to the stimulus - ‘Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall’ and then recorded things like feelings, reactions, thoughts and themes the stimulus provoked in us and then shared these with our fellow group members. The next lesson we used what we had wrote to single out 5 words and we created a tableaux for each of the words. Step-by-step we then added into these freeze frames certain ‘Epic’ techniques to create a little tiny performance…

The final technique we need to add is song which gave us a little bit of trouble. I don’t know if anybody in our group is very musically talented so this could be a small hurdle for the group to overcome. I just hope for everybodies sake they don’t have to hear me sing or else they could be permanently scarred…

Stay tuned for more excellent blog’s (just like this one)
